We are excited to begin a new program in partnership with the United Way and Women United. 30 women with an Intellectual Disability will attend an eight-week training course to provide them with on-the-job training and credentials necessary to work as a custodial staff. At the end of the eight-weeks they will be job ready in order to move into a position in the janitorial field.
Women who wish to have a career in janitorial services are often relegated to "housekeeping" jobs and are not offered the opportunity to break into a male dominated field. The status quo of woman with an intellectual disability, on social assistance not being able to access an under represented industry which is not acceptable (less than 30% of this industry is comprised by women). Not to mention the low rates of people with disabilities being considered for jobs. Women need the training, skills development and opportunity to break into this growing field. Through this program we can guide them and support them towards retaining a meaningful career in janitorial services.
The 8-week training program includes in-class and on the site training, a certificate in WHIMS, Fire Extinguisher training, Health & Safety standards such as ' Slips, Trips and Falls', and First Aid and CPR.
If you are interested in being a part of the program please see this flyer for more information.
